Kwa.mama needs volunteers for their projects in Shakashead.
Shakashead is a township close to Ballito with great needs.
The most vulnerable members of Shakashead are the children who are left to their own devices during the day while parents go off to work. Those who are not yet school going will have the ability to come to the pre school as a safe haven during the day. The pre-school aims are to give the children a sense of pride, build healthy relationships, instil a sense of hope and teach basic life skills.
As most of their working members are not literate, they would love to invite English speaking volunteers to come and spend time with them so they can expose the children and the working Members to English on a daily basis!

Volunteers can work with the children in the pre school and at the after school programme for the older kids and expose them to a lot of English. You could assist the teachers, play with the children, nurture the children, give individual attention, help with homework, start your own project in sports, dance, arts&crafts etcetera. There are loads of options, you only need a lot of initiative.

This project is especially suited to emotionally mature volunteers aged 18 years or older. The nature of the work can involve emotional challenges but is very rewarding.
A good level of the English language is required.
Flexibility and be able to use your initiative is very useful during your stay.
We ask from our volunteers that they have some previous experience in working with children and/or did a related study like Psychology or Social Work. This may also be studies like Sports and Drama or Nursing.
An extra shout out to volunteers with an background as therapist like playtherapy or creative therapy to help with the our traumatised children.

If you think you are the perfect volunteer for us but you don’t have any previous experience then you can send us an email, we will discuss individual cases.
We ask every volunteer to stay at least 4 weeks.

You are part of the Kwa.Mama family and we ask flexibility in working hours. Offcourse you will have enough free time to explore Ballito and surroundings and time to relax at the beach.
